Today’s Flyer, Dr. Lee Burdge, could not come at a more perfect time for me. As a mother of four children, I am feeling not at all like a Rock Star Parent this week, and I am so ready to soak in some of her wisdom for how I can deepen my relationships with all of the small and increasingly not-so-small people in my house. Let’s get to know Dr. Lee!
1. Tell us in a few sentences what you do. And why you do it.
I develop online courses and downloadable resources for parents to help them gain clarity, evaluate honestly, understand deeply, and communicate effectively within their families. I help parents gain the skills and confidence they need to really ROCK the parenting gig! I do this because I started life coaching empty nester women who felt very unhappy and unfulfilled at that stage of their lives. One of the major issues they face is feeling disconnected from their kids once they grow up and leave home. I have dedicated myself to now helping parents of younger children create a vision of what they want those future relationships with their kids to look and feel like, and then reverse engineer a roadmap to get them there. I know from personal experience that this empty nester phase, with some forethought and planning, can be incredibly fulfilling and filled with joy as you continue to deepen those relationships with your kids as adults.

3. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is…
Pee. Sorry… probably not exactly what you were looking for, but since I’m over 50 now, it’s just a reality of life. Right after that though, I pray- I love to begin the day expressing gratitude for the life I’ve been blessed with.
4. My best business advice is….
Never quit. There is no such thing as “an overnight sensation.” The people who are most successful are those who didn’t stop when things don’t work out like they planned. The other piece of advice is to take action- even if it’s uncomfortable- just do something. I’ve heard it said that knowledge without action is just a good read, and I have found it’s easy to get stuck in a learning phase because it feels safer and very justifiable. There’s a time for that, but then there is a time to act.
5. My professional goal for 2021 is…
To touch 5,000 families by giving parents the strategies and tools they need to ROCK the parenting gig!
6. Supporting women in business is now more critical than ever. How can our community best support you?
I really appreciate when other women take their time to sample some of the products I offer and then give me feedback. When another woman leaves a comment after listening to an episode of my podcast, or emails me with a success story after listening to one of my courses- that just makes my heart sing. I know how busy we all are, and the fact that someone took a minute out of their day to leave a kind word is amazing!
7. Your Astrological sign:
Under the “revised astrological calendar,” I am apparently a Pisces now. But, I was born an Aries and I’ll die an Aries in my mind!!!
8. Favorite donut:
Krispy Kreme’s Chocolate Covered Kreme Filled all the way!
9. Favorite podcast:
After my own ;), I actually love to listen to Rob Lowe’s new podcast Literally!, and I also consider myself an Arm Cherry (thanks to Dax Shepard).
10. Favorite book:
Jamie Kern Lima’s new book, Believe It! – I joined the launch team, got an advance copy, and attended her all day launch workshop! I’m obsessed with her!!!
11. Favorite pandemic binge watch:
I came very late to the Grey’s Anatomy party, but I literally watched all 16.5 seasons last year, while I was walking on the treadmill. Fitbit clocked me at the equivalent of 26 marathons while doing it- what a ride!
12. When I practice self-care I…
Since becoming an empty nester, self care has become so much “easier.” The demands on my time are more within my control than ever before, so I have made the time to do those things that help me pamper myself with goodness. But, the one thing that has always been my go to when I feel like life is closing in is to play an upbeat song and dance. Movement creates energy and energy lifts the body and the soul. This little respite never makes my problems go away, but it sure does remind me that I have what it takes to solve them!
13. The place I am happiest is…
With my husband and my kids. If we could all be at the beach together that would be the icing on that happy cake. I never thought I was too picky about my beaches since I grew up in Florida, but then I moved to the Pacific Northwest and I realized I want my sand fine, the water clear and warm, and the waves small. Basically- Florida beaches.
14. People are surprised to learn…
I am a chiropractor. I opened a chiropractic practice when I graduated from school back in the 90’s before I had kids. I chose to become a stay at home mom when my oldest was born. I did a 6 year stint teaching college level science after I had my third child in 4.5 years because I was afraid my brain was turning to mush. But I pretty much turned volunteering at my kids’ schools into a 40 hour per week non-paying job while my kids were going through their late elementary, junior high, and high school years. During that time so many people would ask me what the “dr” in my email address stood for, and I would say “doctor.” They would look surprised and ask me what kind of doctor I was. I am actually the 6th of 9 chiropractors in my family, and pretty dang proud of the fact that I graduated valedictorian of my chiropractic class.
15. 2020 taught me…
“THE” world can become scary or unpredictable or unrecognizable, but “MY” world can still be completely OK. It also reminded me that I really am an extroverted extrovert because for as much as I have enjoyed my quarantine life, I absolutely am missing bare faced, person to person interactions!!!
