Elizabeth Frazier has what sounds to me like THE perfect job. She is like the Tampa Bay community’s fairy godmother, choosing where to spread the Tampa Bay Lightning’s magical fairy dust of funding from their amazing success on the hockey rink…to be exact, that equates to more than $22M in the last 9 seasons to over 500 unique non-profits. Let’s get to know more about Elizabeth!
1. Tell us in a few sentences what you do. And why you do it.
My role is essentially to use the platform of hockey and the Tampa Bay Lightning to give back to the Tampa Bay community. Jeff Vinik hired me ten years ago – shortly after he purchased the Lightning – to lead a transformation of the Foundation and Community Relations team, and it has been my joy and honor to give back to my hometown ever since. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Jeff and his wife Penny, the Lightning has been able to donate more than $22M in the last 9 seasons to over 500 unique non-profits. In addition to donating financially, it is important that we also actively engage, so we also give back through our employee volunteer program, through a portfolio of events like a fishing and golfing tournament, as well as community programming around education, the arts, and about a dozen other impact. Community and giving back has become a core pillar of who we are at the Lightning, and each and every one of us is committed to leading by example.

3. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is…
I’d like to say I meditate or exercise as I keep reading that is how one is supposed to start your day…but I usually feed my 3 dogs, make my coffee and check my emails…..and then think about exercising!!!
4. My best business advice is….
Be authentic to yourself and who you are……and explore every opportunity to develop relationships. I always say I am in the relationship business – we are about people and enabling people throughout Tampa Bay to be the best versions of themselves that they can be.
5. My professional goal for 2021 is…
Hmmm, this is a tough one. I have lots of professional goals for this year, but not one big one. If I had to pick one macro strategic goal…it would be to identify some programming or initiatives that we at the Lightning are not currently doing that could round out our portfolio of giving back and that would be relevant to the evolving needs of our community. The last 11 months have been so difficult for so many, and the Community needs of this year are different than they were last year. I feel blessed to be able to do all that we are doing here at the Lightning, but I am always looking for opportunities to learn and collaborate so that we can give back to our community in new and different ways.
6. Supporting women in business is now more critical than ever. How can our community best support you?
I feel lucky in that I have a strong female support system…it helps that my mom and sister both live here in Tampa, so having them and their networks in addition to my own community of support that I have developed over the past 10 years is powerful. Yes, we need to be kind and support each other, and not competitive. There is enough space and opportunity for all of us!

10. Favorite book:
Another tough question. So many good books out there, and it really depends on my mood. I just read a book that reminded me of Life after Life by Kate Atkinson, and it reminded me how much I enjoyed that book so I am going to re-read it. Also just read Untamed which I enjoyed. A classic is also Gift of the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. I had a quote from it in my marriage vows, and I try to re-read it at least once a year.
