Jessica Muroff is the CEO of the United Way Suncoast, where she spends her days fighting for the education and financial stability of every person in the community. Pretty darn impressive, isn’t it?  Jessica also is committed to being an inclusive and compassionate leader to her many team members at United Way, and she also focuses on being a great wife and mom to her daughters (and NINE pets!), which makes us love her even more.  Let’s see how Jessica helps so many people ascend here in Tampa Bay.


1. Tell us in a few sentences what you do. And why you do it.

I bring our community together to improve the lives of individuals throughout our region through nonprofit partnership, fundraising, volunteerism, and advocacy. I truly believe that together we can overcome any obstacles and that is what I work hard to do every day. I have committed my life in service to others and I am grateful that my career allows me to do this in big ways.

3. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is…
 This is very personal, but I cuddle with my husband.  Then, I take both of my dogs on a walk and sing my girls awake. 


4. My best business advice is….
One of my favorite quotes is,  “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I believe that success in life and business is rooted in the quality of our relationships. I work hard to build a strong culture with my team, I am committed to being an inclusive and compassionate leader.


5. My professional goal for 2021 is…
We are in the middle of a comprehensive and inclusive strategic planning process. I am excited about the work we are doing to transform lives and build a stronger community. I am most excited about the incredible team I am building to make this happen.

Books are life to me, so it is hard to choose just one. I would say A Land Remembered. Every Floridian should read this book!

We do not really watch TV, but we did finally watch all of Game of Thrones. 


11. When I practice self-care I…
…workout, meditate, read, bake.


12. The place I am happiest is…
Hanging out with my husband and our kids. We literally have the best time together. My favorite is playing all of our favorite music, signing at the top of our lungs, and dancing. Dance party is a fairly regular occurrence in our house. Good old board games are, too.


13. People are surprised to learn I…
…own two dogs, three cats, two lizards, a horse and a snake.


14. 2020 taught me…
Resiliency. In the last four months of the year we thrived through my husband pretty much shattering his leg, our first floor flooding, one of our children contracting COVID, two unexpected surgeries for me. I was grateful for my partner as we tackled all of this together. 2020 also taught me the strength of our community. We raised nearly $2MM to support individuals and families impacted by the pandemic. Every day I hear stories of hope and healing. I love our community!


It sounds like Jessica’s 2020 was super spectacular, but we are not surprised that her family is still thriving through the mess.  We also love hearing how successful her pandemic support fundraising has been, as we know how crucial the United Way is to so many people in our area.  Thank you, Jessica, for all you do to serve our community!
