If you live in Tampa Bay, you just maaaaay have heard about the Super Bowl—and the fact that our Buccaneers won it!  LaKendria Robinson has been in full Super Bowl mode as the Director of Business Connect & Community Outreach for the 2021 Host Committee. In this role, she was responsible for identifying and connecting Tampa Bay’s diverse business landscape to contracting opportunities for Super Bowl LV, and now she’s back to creating programs and initiatives that provide opportunities for diverse communities on her own! Let’s get to know more about LaKendria.

1. Tell us in a few sentences what you do. And why you do it.
I partner with companies that are empowered to create programs and initiatives that provide opportunities for diverse communities. I’ve had great success creating and leading various programs that transform people’s lives and their businesses. It is my sole purpose to help provide access and opportunities to underserved communities who wouldn’t ordinarily have access to opportunities that help them build and live more sustainable lives.

3. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is…
I wake up at 4am to jumpstart my work day. The first thing I do is make myself a cup of herbal tea and peek in on my kiddos. They look like angels when they’re sleeping!

4. My best business advice is….
Pivot as often as you need to in order to remain relevant in the marketplace. Most people find a “good groove” and never reinvent themselves in order to become better. If pivoting is not your thing, so be it. But I’ve learned that in order to make the biggest impact, you have to pivot.

5. My professional goal for 2021 is…
My professional goal for 2021 is launch a consulting firm that supports organizations that want to create programs and initiatives that support diverse communities.

6. Your Astrological sign:
I am a Gemini & Cancer cusp. My birthday is June 21st, which depending on the astrology calendar you follow will fall on either one. I have a strong personality that features traits from both signs. It’s my superpower!

7. Favorite donut:
The Croissant Donut from Nicola’s Donuts! It is a little slice of heaven that I don’t get to enjoy often enough.

8. Favorite podcast:
Corporate Homie hands down! It is led by two dynamic women, one who is a powerhouse here in Tampa Bay, Bemetra Simmons (Jenni side note: we will be featuring her here soon!). The ladies give tangible advice on how to navigate Corporate America as a person of color to avoid landmines and advance your career. It’s amazing!

9. Favorite pandemic binge watch:
Ozark. It is a cunning, edge of your seat drama that I didn’t know I needed. I’d hear people talk about it, but I wasn’t interested in watching it. That changed when my husband made me watch the first episode. I was immediately hooked and can’t wait for the next season.

10. When I practice self-care I…
Find places of solitude. The activity itself doesn’t matter, whether it be taking a long ride or getting a massage. Being alone with my thoughts and allowing myself to decompress and process information on my own terms rejuvenates me.

11. The place I am happiest is…
Anywhere with my husband. As cliche as it sounds, he is my best friend and we always have the best time together. He’s charming, quick-witted, and has a wicked sense of unintentional humor. Anytime we get a chance to spend uninterrupted time together, it’s a treat!

12. 2020 taught me…
To pivot often and early. Doing so keeps you relevant in the marketplace and positions you to consistently add value to those around you.

I love your “pivot” advice, LaKendria (does anyone else have a visual picture of Ross from Friends trying to get a sofa up the staircase when they hear that??), and I love your description of your husband as your best friend!  We can’t wait to hear about your new consulting firm, so please keep us posted and help us help YOU once you are official.  Thanks for soaring with us today!
